NOTICE Ensuring safety of vessel is the obligatory responsibility of the navigation officer. The use of the equipment does not relieve the user from the need to take any safety precautions or checks whether it is mandatory or otherwise in accordance to international and national rules.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS This notice indicates an unsafe operation which, if not avoided, could result in property damage or equipment malfunction.

High Voltages are located over many areas in the systems!

Maintenance and repairs must only be carried out by trained and qualified personal with knowledge for electrical devices.

Caution during Operations: Never touch or have any body contact with active electrical circuits!

Observe handling regulations! Removal or insertion of a subgroup or printed wiring board with live voltage can lead to severe damage.

All relevant safety regulations and safety standards must be closely observed.

Never insert fuses with other values than those stipulated!

NVR-9000 & NVR-9000S INSTRUCTION MANUAL

1. OVERVIEW 1.1 Outline Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) is designed to record and store in a secure and retrievable form, information concerning the ship’s position, movement, physical status and control command for the period leading up to and following an incident. It enables the accident investigators to review procedures and instructions in the moments leading to an incident and help to identify the cause of the accident. The data recorded by VDR can be used for vessel management, such as equipment health management, ship position management. NVR-9000 is the first generation of NSR VDR product, flexible to form a VDR or SVDR, easy to install and maintain. The product is designed to meet the following standards: 1. MSC.333 (90): Adoption of Revised Performance Standards for Shipborne Voyage Data Records (VDRs) 2. IEC 61996-1 (2013): Maritime Navigation and Radiocommunication Equipment and Systems -Shipborne Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) -Part 1: Performance Requirements, Methods of Testing and Required Test Results 3. MSC214(81): “Amendments to the Performance Standard for Shipborne/Shipborne Simplifed Voyage Data Recorder” 4. IEC 61996-2 {Ed.2.0} 2007: Maritime Navigation and Radiocommunication Equipment and Systems-Shipborne Voyage Data Recorder (VDR)-Part 2: Simplified Voyage Data Recorder (S-VDR)-Performance Requirements, Methods of Testing and Required Test Results 5. IEC 60945 {Ed.4.0} 2002: Maritime navigation and radiocommunication equipment and systems-General requirements-Methods of testing and required test results

2.1 Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) NVR9001 2.1.1 Mounting consideration     

  

Locate the unit away from heat sources. Select a location where the shock and vibration are minimal. Locate the unit away from places subject to water splash and rain. Make the maintenance space shown in the outline drawing for maintenance and checking purpose. A magnetic compass will be affected if the unit is placed too close to the magnetic compass. Observe the compass safe distances at the front of this manual to prevent interference to a magnetic compass. Select a mounting location considering the length of the cables to be connected to this unit. The cables connected the units shown below should be 50 m or less.  Indoor Microphone Unit (IMU)  Outdoor Microphone Unit (OMU)  Fix Protective Capsule (FPC)  Float-Free Capsule (FFC)  Data Extension Unit (DEU)  Remote Control Unit (RCU)  Video Interface Unit (VIU) Select a location where the surface is flat. If it is not flat, insert a number of washers between the unit and the mounting location as necessary. Select a location that is strong enough to support the weight of the unit. The cable entrance of the unit should face downward.

2.1.2 Mounting Install the data acquisition unit (DAU) on a bulkhead. 1. Fasten the unit with four M10 bolts or φ10 coach bolts (local supply). 2. Two eye bolts are attached at the top of the unit to hoist the unit on board. Remove them after the installation. 3. Attach two cosmetic caps (supplied) to eye bolt holes.

2.3.4 Wiring Details 1) Refer to the Junction Box (NEB205), connect to Fixed Protective Capsule (FPC) with the cable. 2) Connect to Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) with data line and power cable.

2.4 Float Free Capsule (FFC) NEB-2000C-VDR 2.4.1 Mounting Consideration Select a mounting location, keeping in mind in the following points:  The FFC should, with greatest possible probability, be float-free and avoid being caught in railings, superstructure, etc., if the ship sinks.  The FFC should be located so that it may be easily released manually and brought to the survival craft by one person. Therefore, it should not be located in a radar mast or any other places which can only be reached by vertical ladder.  Fix the FFC vertically on the bulkhead or handrail so that the cable entrance faces downward.  The FFC should be equipped with a buoyant lanyard suitable for use as a tether to life craft, etc. The buoyant lanyard should be so arranged as to prevent its being trapped in the ship’s structure.  The FFC should be marked with the ship’s call sign, serial number, MMSI number (if applicable), 15 Hex ID, and battery expiry date before installation.  Select a mounting location considering the cable length of this unit. The cable between the FFC and junction box should be 1.5 meter or less.  In case of float-free recording medium, minimization of the risk of obstruction after release.
