1-INTRODUCTION This document describes the use of Windows® terminal.exe application to increase troubleshooting performance of specialized field engineers

2-SCOPE 

Schindler SmartMRL® Product Line elevators

3-TOOL DESCRIPTION 3.1-HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS    

PC laptop with RS232 IO port At least Windows® 98 “9 pin RS232_female to RS232_female” cable –the same used for CADI application-. You can also use the Smart’s [1] duplex cable (IdNr 258283) …or a “9 pin RS232_female to a 3 pin JST 3_female [2]” cable, wired [2->1], [3->2], [5->3]

1

3.2-TO HOST CONNECTION The laptop uses the rear RS232 port to communicate with the elevator controller

2

The Elevator control uses the SCIC print to communicate with external devices as following:  

SCIC1: Use the X232 port [A] SCIC2: Use either the X232 [A] (or the XTELE [B] ports, whenever you have at least SW v5.x)   

This design and information is our intellectual property. It must without our written consent neither be copied in any way nor used for manufacturing nor communicated to third parties

i

When using the X232 be sure that the installation is NOT a duplex one, otherwise strange characters will appear on the monitor Enable the SCIC.DIL[3] micro switch when using the XTELE port! X232 port cannot be used in case of duplex elevators!

3.3-SOFTWARE CONTENTS Used program is a standard Windows® OS application named TERMINAL.EXE. A second file [smart.trm] customizes the program, showing several commands on the program’s bottom line We suggest you to create a new folder in your computer (for example C:/Bionic) and place there the TERMINAL.EXE and SMART.TRM files

4.-PROGRAM DESCRIPTION 4.1-START THE TERMINAL Go under the directory where the two files, “Terminal.exe” and “smart.trm”, are placed and double click on the “smart.trm” . When the program is starter the following window will appear:

1

Terminal.exe is a terminal emulator, allowing the computer to send commands [1] and receive information from the Elevator Control using alphanumeric text [2] NOTE: Information received from the Elevator Control can be slightly different according to the installed software version
