1.1 METHOD STATEMENTS 1. Metal Clad Switchgear
Check for Completeness of installation as per check list Prior testing Erection Check Format /Erection Control Form) must be checked
and filled Check Insulation Resistance values for all aux circuits Check Operation of Breakers Check Function of control and selector switches
Check Function of meters and relays Check over all function of current and voltage transformers Check Function of aux. CT / aux. PT if any Check Function of control circuits and fuses
Check Function of heater and heater switch Check Function of cubicle illumination lamp
NOTE: Relevant drawings, this SAT procedure, FAT report and test forms must be available on site during testing. 2. HVAC Test (i) IR Value Measurement
Measure insulation resistance at 5000 V DC Between phases Between phase to earth
(ii) HVAC Test : This test is to be carried out on each of the phases with respect to earth. AC voltage equal to 2.5 times of line voltage (27.5kV) for 1 minute is applied to the conductor with respect to ground. The leakage current is recorded and noted down.

3. Circuit Breaker (i)
IR Value
(ii)
Across the Pole when breaker is open Between the pole when breaker is closed Pole to earth when breaker is closed
Contact Resistance Test As per IEC publication 694 the measurement of contact resistance shall be made by voltage drop method by passing a direct current of not less than 100 Amps through the circuit breaker (in closed position) and measuring the voltage drop across the breaker terminals (Incoming – outgoing), it is achieved by using micro ohmmeter.
(iii)
Timing Test The measurement may be made at normal control voltage and the values obtained shall be not more than the ones given below (a) Closing times around 100 milli seconds. (b) Tripping time around 40 milli seconds.
(iv)
Operational and functional check (a) Operational Check Local and Remote Closing and tripping

4. Current Transformer (I) IR Value Measurement Measure insulation resistance Primary to earth and between primary to
secondary by using 5000V megger. Measure insulation resistance between secondary cores and secondary core to earth by using 500V megger.
(ii) Continuity Test Measure the continuity of the winding by using multimeter. (iii) Winding resistance measurement Measure the winding resistance of the CT by using low range micro ohm meter. (iv) Polarity Test This test is to be carried out by applying small DC voltage on one side of the CT and the direction of momentary deflection of a milli ammeter on the opposite side of the CT is noted and compared with polarity marks. (v) Ratio Test This test is to be carried out by applying current in primary and record the Current value in secondary. To get the ratio of the CT by dividing the Primary current by that of the secondary current and comparing with it rated value. (vi) Magnetising Curve Test (Excitation Test) Excitation tests are made to assure the CT is capable of developing its published secondary terminal voltage without excessive excitation current. An excitation curve is plotted by applying various values of an AC voltage below saturation level to the secondary with the primary open circuited. While measuring secondary current and voltage substantial deviations from published curves should be investigated (or from the curves obtained during commissioning) and may indicate a turn to turn short Page: 4 / 25

circuit or a completed magnetic path around the CT core.
(vii) Burden Measurement This test is to be carried out by applying the rated current to the secondary circuit of the CT and measure the voltage across secondary. The burden is usually expressed in volt – ampere absorbed at a specified power factor and at rated secondary current. 5. Voltage Transformer (i) IR Value Measurement
Measure insulation resistance Primary to earth and between primary to secondary by using 5000V megger. Measure insulation resistance between secondary cores and secondary core to earth by using 500V megger.
(ii) Winding resistance measurement Measure the winding resistance of the VT by using low range micro ohm meter. (iii) Polarity Test This test is to be carried out by applying small DC voltage on one side of the VT and the direction of momentary deflection of a milli ammeter on the opposite side of the VT is noted and compared with polarity marks. (iv) Ratio Test This test is to be carried out by applying voltage in primary and measure the voltage value in secondary. To get the ratio of the VT by dividing the Primary voltage by that of the secondary voltage and comparing with it rated value. (v) Burden Measurement This test is to be carried out by applying the rated voltage to the secondary circuit of the VT and measure the current drawn by the secondary circuit. The burden is usually expressed in volt – ampere absorbed at a specified power factor and at rated secondary voltage. Page: 5 / 25
