Lund University Global Scholarship Motivation Letter Dear selection committee, I am interested in the announced Lund University Global Scholarship for Master of Public Health to study at Lund University. I have completed my undergraduate studies in Nursing from “Jigjiga University”, Ethiopia on June 28, 2014. With a BSc in Nursing, I have more than four years of academic, clinical, co-curricular and extra curriculum activities experience. Currently, I am a member of 9th batch African Union Youth Volunteers Corps and I am waiting for deployment to work as a youth Volunteer at African Union. Also, I have been working as academic staff at the level of an Assistant Lecturer at Dilla University. After I graduated from Jigjiga University, the Government of Ethiopia deployed me to one of the most remote areas of Ethiopia. In my fourteen months stay in the most remote areas in Ethiopia, I have witnessed the dire situation of the community that I have been working for who are suffering from diseases that can be prevented or treated like diarrhea, malnutrition, malaria, infections. And due to lack of help to mother and child during pregnancy resulting in fatal complications. A major cause of this was the shortage of trained managers and qualified personnel. Since the time I have been working in remote areas of the Country, it was my strong aspiration and conviction to take part in research activities which will be able to address the major community health problems in Ethiopia. The Master of Public Health program at Lund University has a rich multidisciplinary component, with top-notch professors, excellent environment, and rich history of diverse alumni. I would like to participate in this program to develop my decision-making and research skills, as well as gain exposure to new and emerging techniques, methodologies and modalities in Public Health research. The program would be an excellent opportunity to improve my Professional and research skills and to gain a lot of experiences to deal with the multifaceted and grand health challenges that my country is facing. Also, I believe, the knowledge, skill and experience that I will gain from this program would also be relevant to the implementation of the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and SDG. After I will complete this master, I will become lecturer as academic staff at the University of Dilla that I will also share my knowledge and experience for a lot of undergraduate and postgraduate students in my country. So, my participation in this master program will also contribute a lot to my future carrier and my countries future development. I am employed by the University of Dilla, with a gross payment of 296 USD per month. Being the only source of income, this money can hardly cover for anything extra but necessities. Unfortunately, my Organization cannot cater for the cost of this MSc
program because it is not covered in the budget year. This explains, despite my strong aspiration towards this MSc program, I could only be able to participate if I get financial support from your side. So, it would be really difficult for me to comply with this requirement; hence, I would very much appreciate if the university can consider providing a scholarship. . My goal is to return to my country, Ethiopia, and contribute to its growth and development upon completion of the Master of Public Health program. As an enthusiastic applicant, I look very much forward to hearing from you, Sincerely; Dawit Getachew Assefa
