Application
To remove unfixed reactive dye from the dyed fibre it is first necessary to dilute the electrolyte to below a concentration of 2 g/l before the soaping stage. Where possible rinsing should be hot (50 - 70 °C) to maintain the open structure of the cellulose fibre and allow effective diffusion-out of the dye hydrolysate. This is recommended for all Levafix® and Procion® dyes where the anchor system is resistant to hot alkaline rinsing. With Remazol® vinyl sulphone dyes the first rinse in the presence of residual alkali should be at 30 - 50 °C for 10 minutes to avoid hydrolysing the vinylsulphone cellulose covalent bond. After this initial rinse a neutralisation stage using acetic acid at pH of 5 - 6 for 10 minutes at 50 - 80 °C should be given, after which hot rinsing and soaping can be carried out. The number of rinses before the soaping depends on the depth of shade, liquor carry-over, and liquor ratio (refer to DyStar reactive dye pattern card) Sera Fast C-RD is based on a surfactant with dye affinity which complexes with the reactive dye hydrolysate to avoid redeposition on the fibre, thereby improving the soaping efficiency. Subsequent rinsing and after treatment should be as indicated in the DyStar reactive dye pattern card.

Wash off improvement
A surplus of dyestuff especially on the surface of the fibres leads to poor values in wet fastness as well as dry and wet crocking. Fastness improvement can be achieved by thorough but time consuming rinse steps, which get economically more and more difficult and unwanted. Wet fastnesses on CO fibres can be improved by cationic after treatment, such as Sera Fast C-TE. The main part of surplus dye should be removed in the wash off. To improve the fastness during the wash off process products are used, which allow easy removal of unfixed dye and their solution in the treatment liquor, which will be washed away or drained subsequently. Dyeings based on different dye systems (reactive dyestuff hydrolysed compared to vat dye pigment) require different wash off products

Reactive dyes: results in overview
-
Cyclanon XC-W is sensitive to existence of water hardeners during the wash off
-
Sera Fast C-RD brings better wash off results compared to Cyclanon XC-W when washed with hard water
-
Sera Sperse C-SN also shows good results in hard water
