STANDARD PIPE SUPPORT DRAWING 1.0

3000-DC-2050-4 Page 3 of 9

GENERAL This document and the attached standard pipe support drawings cover the requirements of the design, fabrication, procurement and installation of pipe supports for PTTChem Electrical Power and Steam (EPS) Project in Thailand.

2.0

CODE AND STANDARD Unless otherwise specified in written, the supports design shall conform to the requirements of the latest version of this specification at the time of call for tender of the documents listed hereafter, where applicable: - ASME B31.1 : Power Piping - MSS SP-58

: Pipe hangers and supports materials, design and Manufacture

- MSS SP-69

: Pipe hangers and supports – Selection and application

- MSS SP-89

: Pipe hangers and supports – Fabrication and installation practice

- AWS D1.1-82 : American Welding Society Structural Welding Code - AISC

: American Institute of Steel Construction.

3.0

REQUIREMENTS APPLICABLE TO ALL SUPPORTS

3.1

General Piping and accessories shall be adequately supported and provided with suitable anchor to prevent excessive loads on connected equipment, and to prevent undue movements caused either by expansion/contraction or by vibration.

STANDARD PIPE SUPPORT DRAWING 3.1.1

3000-DC-2050-4 Page 4 of 9

The use of supports other than those specified in this specification as well the deviation to the support details shown here shall be approved by stress engineer/group.

3.1.2

In case the piping is subjected to stress analysis calculations, the support type and location shall be in line with stress analysis requirements.

3.1.3

Unless otherwise specified, Metric, Celsius, Kilogram & Newton units should be used as a unit of calculation for the drawings and documents except nominal size of piping component in inch (B).

3.1.4

The length or dimension specified in the construction standard drawing of Attachment should be adjusted by field to be suitable for condition.

3.1.5

The space and height may be adjusted using shim plate up to 49mm by field without drawing revision.

3.1.6

The bolt hole on the plate specified in the drawing should be adapted according to Supplier.

3.1.7

The minimum size of fillet weld should be based on the thicker part as specified in the sec. J2-2.B of AISC but the welding size should not exceed the thinner member.

3.1.8

The seal welding or compound sealing to the un-welded area should be provided to avoid corrosion due to penetration of water or moisture.

3.1.9

The field weld specified in the drawing can be replaced with shop weld without revision of drawing.

3.1.10

Supports shall be designed so as to meet all static, operating and occasional loads (earthquake, wind, etc) to which the piping may be subject. The design shall be based on all concurrently acting loads transmitted into such supports. The concurrently acting loads are those derived from the relevant piping stress analysis of the related line.

3.1.11

For piping containing gas and not subject to a hydrostatic test, weight of liquid shall not be considered provided that precautions against liquid entrance into the piping have been

taken. 3.1.12

Support points shall be adequately located and spaced for optimum load distribution and weight balance.

3.1.13

Guides and direction restraints shall be so as to allow lines to expand and contract freely relative to the anchor, and must be designed to be structurally suitable to withstand loads involved.

3.1.14

Piping entering vessels will preferably be supported from brackets attached to the vessel, which shall be designed accordingly.

3.1.15

All support components to be welded on pipes and fittings shall be of the same material as the relevant pipe.

3.1.16

Supporting one line from another should be avoided as much as possible.

3.1.17

Where concrete or steel pipe rack is not located immediately below the point of support, it will be necessary to provide supplementary secondary steel structures to obtain a point of support. These secondary steel structures shall be designed to cope with main structure design, and provision will be taken to eventually reinforce the main structure (gussets, etc.).

3.1.18

Loads (permanent and temporary) induced by these secondary structures shall be considered in main structure design. Secondary structures shall be painted according to the Specification for Painting.

3.1.19

Piping sections requiring frequent dismantling shall be provided with permanent supports for the dismantled condition.

STANDARD PIPE SUPPORT DRAWING 3.2

Selection of Proper Supports

3.2.1

Pipe movements

3000-DC-2050-4 Page 6 of 9

At points of support subject to vertical movements, spring supports of suitable design shall be used to prevent excessive load variation. All springs shall be provided with devices preventing misalignment, eccentric loading and excessive spring stresses. When piping stress is critical, the use of constant load supports shall be used. At points of support subject to horizontal movements, displacements shall be taken by the use of sliding supports (with adequate length to take into account pipe displacements, etc.) or by the swing of long hanger rods (in which case, maximum angular displacement shall not exceed 4 degrees). Selected pipe hangers shall be of an adjustable type. 3.2.2

Allowable stresses Allowable stresses for materials commonly used in the design of pipe hangers and supports are listed in Tables 2 and A2 of MSS SP-58. Allowable stresses for materials not listed in Tables 2 and A2 of MSS SP-58, with known physical properties shall be determined as the lower of the following values -

29% of minimum tensile strength at service temperature.

-

67% of minimum yield strength at service temperature.

Allowable stresses for castings shall be multiplied by a quality factor of 0.8. 3.2.3

Pipe insulation Weather jacketing on insulated piping shall be protected from damage at all support points, if required. Pipe clamps of hanger assemblies shall have rod attachment outside the insulation.

PTFE SLIDE PLATES

4.1

General

4.1.1

If friction loading results in unacceptably high forces on the support structure or equipment nozzle then PTFE slide plates can be used to reduce the loading.

4.1.2

PTFE slide plates shall be prefabricated with a steel backing plate ready for welding to the support.

4.1.3

The best design shall be selected taking into account the actual working conditions and the following: -

PTFE sliding on PTFE, or on stainless steel (polished), depending on vertical loads and on allowable axial friction loads.

-

The PTFE area shall be selected based on calculated vertical loads and maximum allowable contact pressure supplied by the manufacturer.

5.0

INSTALLATION

5.1

General

5.1.1

Fabricated pipe supports shall be installed at the locations indicated on the piping arrangement drawings.

5.1.2

Pipe support clips, attachments to vessels, steel columns or beams shall be installed by manual arc welding process unless vessels are stress relieved. No welding shall be allowed to stress relieved vessels without HEC & vessel vendor approval.

5.1.3

When pipe support incorporate springs, which are preset by vendor to specified cold load setting, spring stops shall be removed only after field hydrostatic test unless specified otherwise on the spring support detail sheet.

STANDARD PIPE SUPPORT DRAWING

3000-DC-2050-4 Page 8 of 9

5.1.4

Hot insulation at a clamp or u-bolt shall be cut back sufficiently to allow pipe movement.

5.1.5

Base springs rested on concrete at grade shall be cinch anchored or equal unless anchor bolts are provided. In case pipe support foundations shown in piping arrangement drawings are not included in civil or architecture foundation drawings, the pipe support foundations regarding pipe support drawing No STD-280 shall be furnished by construction at the support locations specified.

5.2

Support Materials

5.2.1

All supports shown on the piping arrangement drawings should be shop fabricated and supplied to the site as assemblies with the support number marked on.

5.2.2

All field supports shall be painted in accordance with Specification for Painting.

6.0

SUPPORT MARKING AND NUMBERING SYSTEM

Support mark with symbols shall be defined on General Arrangement Drawing.
