Team building What do treasure hunts, circus classes, cooking lessons and spy school have in common? As well as being loads of fun, they’re also all popular types of team-building activities. Team-building activities are common in lots of companies – whether they have ten employees or ten thousand – and many people now think that they are an essential part of managing a successful company. There are lots of different types of team-building activities, from learning a new dance routine together to spending a whole weekend camping in the wild, but they’re all activities which are designed to improve relationships between staff and encourage employees to work well together. Getting out of the office gives employees a chance to get to know each other away from their desks and spend some time together having fun.

Although some people think these ‘away days’ are a waste of time, research shows that there really are lots of benefits in them for both employees and the companies. These include higher motivation, better communication between colleagues and bosses, better problem-solving skills, and getting more work done more quickly and efficiently. 1 According to the text, treasure hunts and cooking       classes are popular leisure activities.
