Bearing customization While SKF offers a wide assortment of standard bearings and related products, your application may require a bearing with performance characteristics that extend ­beyond the norm. To meet your specific ­performance and lead time requirements, SKF will customize its bearings to your precise requirements. All modifications made are fully traceable. Next to the initial designation, the new designation with a suffix (R8) describing the customization, can also be found on the bearing. As well as this, a unique 6 digit traceability code is marked on the bearing, linked to an SKF internal database, carrying all relevant information on the customization. Next to the code is the date of the modification, according to the SKF designation scheme. Bearing customization: special clearance and tapered bore

Selecting the right grease has a major impact on bearing performance. Application-specific grease can reduce friction and heat. This extends the life of the lubricant, thus enabling the bearing to remain in operation longer. Furthermore, in the operating conditions for loads, speeds and temperature there can be application-specific requirements, such as legislative regulations for food safety and ­environmental impact.

To provide a fast and flexible service for a variety of demands, SKF carries a stock of over 100 different greases at its customization centre. Additional greases are also available on request. The following table provides ­ a short outtake of common greases for customized lubrication.
