2. Quality / Safety Features Your platform lift is designed for the maximum convenience of the users in public and private buildings. You, as user of the platform lift, are at all times fully responsible for the fulfilment of the locally applicable safety regulations and guidelines.

2.1 Safety features

DANGER NEVER use the lift in the event of a fire, unless so directed by the emergency services.

WARNING Do not allow anyone to play on or with the lift.

The lift incorporates many safety features including:

4000 200 en 01

Pressure sensitive safety edges on the platform edges and the top of the platform control panel. These will stop the platform should an obstruction be encountered. When the lift has stopped you can either remove the obstructing item yourself or call for assistance from someone outside the lift.

The doors are automatically locked when the platform is between floor levels.

From inside the platform - Constant pressure controls, hold to run, that stop the lift when pressure is not maintained or the lift has reached the correct floor level.

From outside the platform - the lift will arrive and stop automatically when you have pressed the call button.

Emergency stop button on platform control panel.

On-board alarm button which can be connected to an external bell or automatic telephone dialler.

A mechanical and electrical blocking device situated in the pit. The blocking device will stop the platform lift when pulled out before entering the pit.

5

Please note the following: •

It is important that someone is available external to the lift to carry out any emergency procedure should this become necessary. This assistance can best be summoned using the alarm button.

Other building users should be made aware of the need to leave the landing areas clear to enable the doors to open without obstruction and the wheelchair user to manoeuvre easily when entering and leaving the lift. A turning circle of 1500 mm minimum diameter is recommended at each level for this.

2.2 Safety instruction for working underneath the platform This type of work MUST only be carried out by a competent person.

3. Operation Instructions 3.1 To call the lift 1.

Press the call button or use the key to call the lift adjacent to the entrance at the floor level to be served. The lift will stop automatically at the floor level.

If the lift is equipped with school locking (optional) the door will be locked after 10 seconds, if the lift is unused. To open the door use the key call station. 2.

Whilst the lift is at the landing level, the door will be unlocked allowing access to the platform. If the lift is fitted with automatic door opener (optional) the door will open once the call button is pressed.

3.2 To operate the lift from the platform controls The platform control panel consist of: •

Floor destination buttons

Alarm button

Emergency stop button

Overload signal (signals when lift is overloaded).

Automatic emergency dialler

Telephone

The back wall light illuminates all buttons.

4000 200 en 01

1.

The user should access the platform and wait for the door to close. The automatic door opener (optional) will close the door following a time delay or once a button requesting a different floor has been pressed.

2.

If the lift is equipped with school locking (optional) the door will be locked after 10 seconds. To open the door again the user should press the present floor destination button (e.g. you are at ground floor then press 1).

3.

Constant pressure should be applied to the chosen floor destination button on the control panel until the lift stops automatically at that floor level.

4.

Once the lift reaches the chosen floor level, the door is unlocked allowing exit from the platform. The automatic door opener (optional) will open once the lift arrives at that floor level.

5.

To summon assistance the alarm button should be pressed at least 10 seconds. When the yellow alarm button is pressed a buzzer sounds. This is only a signal to the user that the button is pressed.

6.

The alarm button may be connected to an external bell or an automatic emergency dialler. The external bell will warn, as long as the alarm button is pressed, the direct environment surrounding the lift that something is wrong. The automatic emergency dialler will dial after 10 seconds a pre-set phone number in order to get help.

7

8

7.

Furthermore, the customer can use the telephone to summon assistance in case of an emergency. It is not necessary to press the alarm button in order to use the telephone.

8.

Should the lift operation not cease when pressure is removed from all control buttons then the emergency stop button should be pressed. This will lock down and stop the lift operation. To reset this button turn it clockwise until the head returns to the upper position. After such an event the lift should be checked by a competent person.

4. Care and Maintenance 4.1 Inspection intervals Your lift must be serviced within 6 months of installation and twice a year thereafter. If the usage is high (more than 20 starts per day in an average) it should be four times a year. Besides keeping the lift in first class condition - ensuring that it continues to comply with the latest regulations - your service provider can identify parts which may soon need replacing. Thus adding to the quality of life of the user by helping to prevent breakdowns. For further information, contact your authorised supplier.

4.2 User maintenance Routine care of your lift involves little more than keeping it clean. Switch off the mains power supply and: 1.

Wipe away dirt; using a mild detergent solution and a just-damp cloth.

2.

Use an automotive paint cleaner to remove any stubborn streak marks on the paint work, and then apply an automotive hard silicone wax, to give a protective finish.

CAUTION Ensure handrails, door handles, ramps and other such parts are not waxed.

Typical items to be checked to ensure that they are in place, undamaged and functioning correctly, are:

4000 200 en 01

doors and locks

stopping accuracy

safety edges

cover panels

push buttons or key control on platform

push buttons or key control on call station

automatic door opener (optional)

automatic emergency dialler. Two-way means of communication in the car which provides permanent contact with a rescue service

alarm function

9

normal lighting

safety signs/pictograms.

Ensure that:

10

The entrances are kept free of any obstruction.

No-one overloads or otherwise misuses the lift.

Any damaged or missing notices are replaced immediately.

4000 200 en 01

5. Simple Fault Finding Should the platform not work, check the following things: 1.

Emergency stop buttons on the control panel should not be pushed in (turn the buttons clockwise to deactivate).

2.

The doors are closed and the door contacts are undamaged and clean.

3.

That the power is not switched off.

4.

The safety edge around the platform floor and above the control panel is not stuck in a pressed position.

If the lift fails to work after you have completed these checks then you should arrange for a competent person to rectify the lift.

4000 200 en 01

11

6. Emergency Procedures All emergency procedures on the lift shall be performed by a competent person.

6.1 Power failure In case of power failure for lifts equipped with the emergency lowering feature the lift will automatically go to back-up battery operation and the lift will travel to the nearest lower level when you push the destination or call button. When the lift has arrived to its destination the door will be unlocked. All push-buttons functions remain if the lift security equipment are functioning. The light and the alarm button system has an emergency battery backup which allows it to function in the event of a power failure. The lift will automatically go back to main power without reset after the failure. If not call for a competent person.

6.2 Emergency lowering of the platform Contact a competent person for help.

6.3 Emergency opening of doors Contact a competent person for help.

6.4 Obtaining service Aritco offers a way in which our expert engineers can keep your lift in first class working order. In the unlikely event that your lift needs attention between service visits, you can report the fault by telephoning your supplier.
