We want to go back again for John’s birthday. Come with us next time! It’s a great place! You’d really like it! Take care, Jane

Connectors of Sequence to talk about past events Language toolbox  We use Connectors of sequence to show the order in which events happened: first, then, next, after that, finally, first of all, by the time, eventually, at last, at the end, before, later… -

By the time we got home, it was too late to eat. Eventually, we took the train to town. At last, we went to the park but it was very late. At the end, we only had time for a quick game.

TASK 2: Use these connectors: at the end, then, finally, after that, first to complete the following anecdote. “On my last birthday, I was going to meet my friends at the park, but they weren’t there. So, I decided to look for them. (1) First, I went to the shopping center opposite the park, but nobody was there. (2) After that, I looked for them at the library, but they were not there either. (3) Then, I tried the sports center at the restaurant near the park, but none of my friends were there. (4) Finally, I went home, and my friends were there with a birthday cake, snacks and music. It was a surprised party for me! (5) at the end of the day, I had the greatest birthday ever!”

My parents took me to the zoo. First, we bought the tickets. After that we entered and I was surprised to see so many animals. At the beginning I knew an elephant, it was very big. Then, I looked at the birds, they were of many colors. Finally, I tried to touch one of them, but I was very scared. At the end, this day was one of the best of my life.
