Dear Sir/ Madam, I am writing with reference to your EVS project. My name is Ana-Maria Stancu, I am 21 years old, and a 3rd year student at the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages, in Bucharest, Romania. I study French, Portuguese and Italian and I have good knowledge of Spanish and English. I am a dynamic person, sociable, responsible and funny, who loves interacting with people, who tries her best to make people smile and who is eager to know as much as possible about the world we live in. I consider these things as being my strengths. However, as any other person, I have weaknesses as well. One of them would be the fact that I sometimes get upset too easily and that I do not have very good self esteem. Another weakness would be the fact I get attached too easily to people and would not want the others to consider this as an advantage to make fun of me. Now, as far as hobbies are concerned, I am “addicted” to learning foreign languages, reading, travelling, trekking and music. I consider that they work together perfectly and that I could not possibly live without them. Concerning my work experience, I have participated in a Work and Travel Program in the United States where I got the chance to meet people from all over the world and to create strong and lasting friendships. This was my first experience far away from home, where I had to deal with many things- I had to be responsible at work, since I was dealing with a great amount of money and with Americans and their every day needs. Apart from this, I also had to learn how to live together with other persons that I did not know before. Another thing worth mentioning would be the fact that last year I went to France with an Erasmus scholarship where I had another chance to meet people from other parts of the world. In France I learned how to live alone and how to make friends in order to have someone to talk to, to count on and to spend your time with. So far, these two experiences taught me to be responsible, organized, how to deal with other nations and cultures and that every moment of our life has to be cherished since it is unique. And here comes my third international experience and the best so far, even though it was the shortest. Last year I also participated in a project in Bulgaria, a Youth in Action project, which reminded me how amazing can life be. I learned many things, I learned what working in a team means, I learned to listen, I learned to play, I learnt to reinvent my smile that I once thought I had lost . The project was about media and how youngsters should use media. We were around forty (40) people who went there to explore, to work and to act. Everyone was sad when we had to return home.
The reason why I have decided to do an EVS is that I believe, it is an amazing experience that develops one as a person and offers the possibility of discovering new people, new places, new cultures, and new ways of dealing with certain situations. When I first found out about the EVS program, I told myself that I have to do it because this is a one life opportunity. After doing an EVS I have other plans, like applying for a master’s and getting a job. So as you can see, this is the perfect time for me, the perfect moment to make it happen. Another reason is the fact that I have never had the chance to be a volunteer. I have had other enriching experiences as you could already see, but never as a volunteer. I remember, when I was in high school, that I wanted to volunteer for disabled children, but I just could not, because I have a younger sister (she is 8 now) who needs to be taken care of. So, I guess I hoped that I could still offer myself as a volunteer one day. The reason why I want to take part of your project is that your activity field interests me a lot and makes me want more, makes me think of ideas in order to attract youngsters and to offer them exciting activities. I enjoy working with youngsters, speaking foreign languages and also teaching them to the others. I also bring in my own culture and beliefs, and my life experience until now. Turkey is a country that I want to explore by taking part of your team, by living there, by integrating into the community and by learning the Turkish language. In what way would I be suitable for this EVS? Well, I like creating bonds and friendships with those with who I work, I am flexible, I accept new ideas easily, I do not mind following instructions and procedures, on the contrary, I look forward to receiving them, and I cannot wait to share my good mood and wide smile. Thank you for reading my letter. I hope it has helped you make an idea of who I really am. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me via my e-mail address: [email protected] I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours faithfully, Ana-Maria Stancu
