PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Purpose
Date:17-NOV-2012
The purpose of this calculation is to size MVA rating of 11/3.45 kV Auxiliary Transformers i.e. Unit Auxiliary Transformers (UAT’s), Station Auxiliary Transformers (SAT’s), Coal handling Plant Auxiliary Transformers (CHPAT’s) and Ash Handling Plant Auxiliary Transformers (AHPAT’s). 1.2
Scope The scope of this document is to size the MVA rating of UAT, SAT, AHPAT and CHAPAT. The other parameters of transformers like impedance, tap positions etc. are not covered in this calculation since those will be decided based on power system studies as a separate deliverable.

METHODOLOGY a) Individual Input kVA requirements of each of the motor is calculated based on the Load list using the following formula:
Input kVA =
(Motor Name Plate kW x Load Factor) (Efficienc y x Power Factor)

b) Total kVA requirement is determined based on all the individual motors plus the power feeders. c) Load of each LV Service transformer (3.3/0.433 kV) considered in CHP and AHP HT Auxiliary Transformer after applying Diversity factor 0.9 on total kVA requirement of each individual LV service Transformer. d) 10 % margin is taken on total kVA requirement for each 11/.3.45 kV Auxiliary Transformer. e) Standard transformer rating (in MVA) is selected based on the total kVA requirement. f) For transformers having rating greater than 5MVA cooling classification shall be ONAN/ONAF. The calculated MVA rating shall be the ONAF rating. The ONAN rating shall be 80% of the ONAF rating. g) For transformers having rating less than or equal to 5 MVA, the cooling classification shall be ONAN only and the calculated MVA rating shall be ONAN. 5.0
ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA a) MVA rating of Each Unit auxiliary transformer (UAT) shall be adequate to supply 50% of 3.3kV unit auxiliary loads plus largest standby motor. b) MVA rating of Each SAT shall be adequate for the maximum of the following load conditions:‐ i) Case ‐ A: One SAT is not available
100% of the load connected to 3.3kV station aux. switchgear for two (2) units
ii) Case ‐ B: One UAT is not available 50% of 3.3kV Station aux. loads of 2 units (both SATs are available) + Transferred load of one Unit auxiliary Transformer under maintenance/outage. c) MVA rating of Each AT for CHP and AHP shall be adequate to meet 100% of the load requirement connected to respective 3.3kV switchgear. 6.0
