Notes: • You will start with the front/face of the pillow. The pockets & numbers, eyes, nose & mouth will be added next. • You will then work on the back & remaining pieces. This will give the numbers time to dry before assembling the pillow. • (sc, hdc) means work into the same stitch. • *sc, hdc* means work a sc in one st, hdc in next st. • For the numbers I used a 1” numbers stencil • Surface crochet: Hold yarn on wrong side of piece. Insert your hook through your work from front to back, grab yarn and pull up a loop. Insert hook into next space/stitch, pull up a loop, draw through loop on hook.

Attaching Pockets: • Rows start from the bottom up (fattest part) •Lay the front piece on a flat surface. •Starting with the bottom pocket, line up the bottom of the plain pocket with the top of row 6, centering it on the front piece. (see photo below, photo is from my Santa pillow, the pockets are sewn the same). • Each individual pocket consists of 9 rows. • Button pocket 1, line up the bottom edge with the top of row 14. • Button pocket 2, line up the bottom edge with the top of row 22. • Button pocket 3, line up the bottom edge with the top of row 30. • Short pocket, line up the bottom edge with the top of row 38. • Using pins, mark each individual pocket & pin in place.

Optional crochet eyes: make 2 With G hook & white yarn, 1. Chain 5, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc 2, 3 hdc in last ch, working on opposite side of ch, hdc 2, 2 hdc in last ch, sl st to join. (10) 2. Work this row in blo. Change to black yarn. Ch 1, *Slst 3, 2 sl st in next 2 sts*, repeat once, sl st to join. Finish off leaving tail for sewing. Pupil: make 2 With G hook & black yarn, 1. Magic loop 5 hdc sts, (or ch 2, 5 hdc in 2nd ch from hook), sl st to join. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. 2. Place the pupil over the lower part of the eye & sew in place. With white yarn, add a highlight to each pupil. Nose: make 1 With G hook & carrot yarn, 1. Magic loop 5 sc sts, (or ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook), pull closed (5) 2. 2sc, sc 4. (6) 3. 2sc, sc 2, 2sc, sc 2. (8) 4. 2sc, sc 3, 2sc, sc 3. (10) 5. Sc in each st around. 6. 2sc, sc 4, 2 sc, sc 4. (12) 7. 2sc, sc 5, 2sc, sc 5. (14) 8. Sc in each st around. 9. 2sc, sc 6, 2sc, sc 6. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. • Attach safety eyes between rows 64 & 65, 1 ½” apart. • Center optional crochet eyes over rows 64 & 65, 1 ½” apart, sew in place. • Stuff nose firmly. Center nose below eyes & sew in place. • With H hook & black yarn, surface crochet a mouth. (see main picture) Numbering the individual pockets: • Start with the top left pocket. Using the fabric paint, number each individual pocket from 1-24. • A number stencil may be very helpful. • Set front aside to allow the paint to dry. • Continue making the rest of the pieces

Back of pillow: Make 1 With H hook & white yarn, • Follow instructions for front of pillow. • Leave a very long tail for sewing the front & back pieces together. Stick arms: make 4 With H hook & brown yarn, 1. Chain 5, sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc 3. (4) 2-23. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. 24. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc2tog. Fasten off & weave in ends. Side stick: (see pic at right) Lefties: attach yarn to the bottom of row 18 (bottom arrow) 1. Attach yarn to row 18, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in the ends of the next 3 rows. (4) 2. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc, 2sc. 3. Ch 1, turn, 2sc, sc, sc2tog. 4. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc, 2sc. 5. Ch 1, turn, 2sc, sc, sc2tog. 6. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc, 2sc. 7. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc2tog. Fasten off & weave in ends. Repeat for the other 3 arm pieces. Assembling arms: • Lay the arms on a flat surface, you want the side stick at the top. • Place 1 arm on top of another, with matching brown yarn, sc the 2 pieces together. • For second arm, attach yarn at the opposite edge so the right side will be facing toward you when finished. Scarf: With H hook & berry red yarn, 1. Chain 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 4. (5) 2-5. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. 6. Change to white yarn, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. 7-10. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. 11. Change to berry yarn, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. 12-15. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Repeat rows 6-15 until you have 25 checks total. Fasten off & weave in ends.

Holly leaves: Make 2 With H hook & green yarn, Chain 12, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc 2, *(dc, ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, dc), hdc 2*, repeat once, 3 hdc in last ch. Working on the opposite side of ch, hdc 2, *(dc, ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, dc), hdc 2*, repeat once, sc, sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.

Berries: Make 3 With G hook & red yarn, Magic loop 5 sc sts, (or ch 2, 5sc in 2nd chain from hook), join and pull closed. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. • Position your leaves on the hat slightly off to the side, sew in place. • Sew the berries Flower: With H hook & light raspberry yarn, 1. Magic loop 10 hdc sts, (or ch 2, 10 hdc in 2nd ch from hook), join & pull closed. 2. *Ch 2, 3 dc in same st, ch 2, sl st 2*, repeat for a total of 5 petals. Fasten off & weave in ends. Flower center: With H hook & turqua yarn, Magic loop 10 hdc sts, (or ch 2, 10 hdc in 2nd ch from hook), join & pull closed. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing to hat. Place the center over the flower. Using the yarn tail & working through both layers, sew the flower to the hat slightly off to the side. Leave the petals unsewn. Candy cane: Red & white yarn With G hook & starting with red yarn, 1. Magic loop 5 sc sts, (or ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook), join & pull closed. 2. Ch 1, sc in same st , sc 4, sl st to join. 3. Change to white yarn, ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join. 4. Ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join. 5. Change to red yarn, ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join. 6. Ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join. 7-18. Repeat rows 3-6. Fasten off leaving a tail. •Fold pipe cleaner in half & insert into candy cane. Trim ends to fit. Use the tail to weave in & out of remaining sts, pull closed. Weave in ends. • Fold beginning end over to shape candy cane. Cord: With H hook & white yarn, Make a chain 28” long. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. • Attach one end of the cord to the top of the candy cane.

Final assembly: Be sure your numbers are dry before continuing. • With wrong sides together, place the main pillow pieces on a flat surface. • Position the stick arms at each side, with the side stick facing up. (see main photo for placement). • Pin around the entire outer edges. • Using the long yarn tail, whipstitch the 2 pieces together. When you reach the arms, sew through all 4 layers. • Leave the top of his head open. • Stuff your pillow just enough to hold his shape. • Stuff your hat just enough to hold it’s shape. With black yarn & yarn needle, working through the back loops from row 19, sew your hat to the top of the snowman’s head. • Sew the other end of the cord to the brim of the hat. And you are done!
