FIELD AUTOMATION AND WELL OPTIMIZATION

Lufkin Automation offers a complete line of fieldproven wellhead automation products, well analysis equipment and software designed to increase operating performance, reduce lifting costs and maximize returns on producing assets. From software to instrumentation and controls, we continue to lead in the development of new, integrated solutions for oil producers worldwide.

Rod Pump Systems Design and Analysis Software Decades of experience providing well analysis as a service to producers are incorporated into the design and diagnostic software programs that Lufkin has developed for commercial applications. Each of our Windows®based programs is backed by online technical support. Technical training classes are available at our Midland and Houston, Texas facility or offsite. Our outstanding software products include: • The DIAG$$ wave equation diagnostic program ascertains surface and subsurface operating conditions in both vertical and deviated rod pumping wells. • PIP$$$ diagnostic software analyzes downhole dynamometer cards to determine the potential for additional production. • The PIVOG$ design tool models the amount of pump capacity required to lift desired surface volumes in relationship to varying levels of pump leakage and gas interference. • The DYNOII diagnostic program, used in conjunction with a Lufkin digital dynamometer, is a valuable tool for analyzing surface data, checking valve status and measuring counterbalance. • CBAL$$ design software systemically calculates the best weight placement for balancing crankbalanced pumping units. Time-consuming trial and error is eliminated. • The SROD$$ wave equation design program predicts equipment loading, pump capacity, power consumption and other equipment behaviors for vertical and deviated wells, and suggests ways to improve production efficiencies.

Fluid Level Instruments Lufkin supplies two basic fluid level instruments: the Ventawave™ Fluid Level Instrument and the Delta-X DXT-01 Acoustical Well Sounder. Both provide operators with fast, accurate well fluid-level information. • The Ventawave Fluid Level Instrument is our latest innovation. A transient pressure wave is sent through a length of coiled tubing to measure external acoustic velocity. A second wave is resonated through the casing. By extrapolating the time it takes the transient wave to travel to the fluid level and back with the known acoustic velocity, the depth-to-fluid is accurately determined. Ideally used with a Lufkin dynamometer, the instrument is comprised of simple, off-the-shelf components. • The DXT-01 Acoustical Well Sounder is a simple and user-friendly fluid level instrument. Compact, lightweight and portable, our exclusive DXT-01 is particularly well suited for years of dependable service in deep, small-annulus, low-pressure wells. A unique noise suppression circuit enables shots to be pinpointed with amazing accuracy.

Dynamometers Lufkin also manufactures a complete line of easy-touse dynamometers featuring load, position, RPM and current transducers that accurately, quickly and cost-effectively analyze well conditions, troubleshoot mechanical problems and provide onsite evaluation of a well’s production potential. • The PAII Digital Dynamometer interfaces a personal computer to load, position, RPM and current transducers via a RS-232 serial port. Lightweight and portable, the unit is powered by 12v DC. Optional software allows users to perform complete wellsite analysis.

•The DXD-03 Dynamometer System is engineered to assess the condition of beam pumping systems. A recorder/plotter component electronically scales charts for at-a-glance assessments. Optional current transducers will plot motor amperage.

Dynagraph cards store valuable information such as percent run time history, counterbalance and time on/time off plots for later retrieval and comparison. And, the controller is easily integrated with most third-party SCADA software packages. • The PCM (Pump Card Monitor) is the only downhole card controller in the industry. Its patented

Lufkin Automation is the leading developer of patented rod pump control technologies. We offer a number of solutions with which to automate and increase production, and dramatically lower lifting and maintenance costs . . . and improve profits. • The MPC Multipurpose Rod Pump Controller is the most flexible, accurate control product on the market. Its patented single setpoint control pre-

cisely determines pump-off. Lufkin’s DX-PRO™ analysis software automatically calculates optimal run time and downtime, matching pump performance to reservoir characteristics. A unique Inferred Production Algorithm measures fluid production stroke-by-stroke, quantifying production daily, regardless of meter location. And, patented autozero circuits automatically compensate for temperature changes and beam fluctuations, ensuring accurate rod loads.

method calculates a downhole card from the surface card and monitors the liquid fill to determine pump-off. A back up control method uses motor power derived from the speed of the pumping unit in case of a load transducer failure. In addition, a variable speed drive can be used in conjunction with the PCM for continuous control. The PCM adjusts the pumping speed to maintain preset fill. Additional features include a motor stall protection, belt slippage and calculated production. As with the MPC, the PCM uses a MODBUS protocol for easy integration with SCADA software packages. • The NABLA OPTIMIZER Economy Rod Pump Controller offers producers a third, simpler control option. This very affordable, low-maintenance product cost-effectively maximizes the efficiency

Additionally, the MPC rod pump controller incorporates Lufkin’s proven dynamometer technology, providing ongoing, real-time analysis and facilitating troubleshooting. Plus, the MPC controller has a built-in, quantitative dynamometer system that continuously monitors and analyzes pumping dynamics. A unique operator interface with a user-friendly keypad graphically displays detailed, real-time well information.

of marginal wells by turning the pumping unit on only when the pump is filling. Power requirements and the adverse effects of “fluid pound” are significantly minimized. The Optimizer controller is capable of recording and displaying runtime over the last 72-hour run period, providing operators with the means to detect changes in mechanical or reservoir conditions. Because the product requires no traditional position transducers or expensive load cells, downtime due to load-cell, cable or circuit problems is eliminated.

SCADA Remote Management Systems Software Lufkin Automation’s Management Systems Software are fully functional NT based supervisory data acquisition and control (SCADA) software packages. Our SCADA products feature integrated modules that provide real-time remote control and monitoring; automatic data recording, scheduled reporting, trending, plotting and polling; and voice callout.

Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) To improve customers’ productivity, Lufkin offers products that enable operators to remotely and reliably monitor and control producing wells. • MPC Injection Well Monitors (IWM) help prevent reservoir damage and maintain optimum levels of production by monitoring the volume and pressure of water injected into maturing oilfields. Radiooperated, IWMs may be specified with either a standard power supply or solar power panels, and with or without a display/key pad, depending on customer needs. • MPC Progressive Cavity Pump Controllers (PCP) protect critical pump components from the wear and tear associated with excessive torque, and ensure that optimum fluid levels are maintained in the well. Production flow rates are accurately measured using turbine meter pulse input, and pump motor speed is effectively controlled via an analog input- and output-generated algorithm.
