1. Introduction
About These Operating Instructions These operating instructions contain all information required for operating the scanner system and the related activities. The operating instructions must be kept complete and easily accessible at all times. When the scanner system is sold, the operating instructions must be passed on to the new owner. The personnel which works on the scanner system must have read and understood the operating instructions and in particular the "Safety" chapter before starting work The operating instructions contain all information for operating the scanner system and consist of the following chapters: • Introduction • Safety • Technical Data • Design and Function • Operation • Cleaning and Maintenance • Machine-Specific Parameters

2. Safety
Basic Information The scanner system is completely integrated in a TLM line as a functional part. The scanner system contains no danger sources that are important in the daily use and operation of the TLM line. The safety precautions are expressly referred to in the respective operating manual of the TLM line, » Operating Manual.
Proper Use The scanner system may only be used for the tasks described in the "Design and Function" chapter. Any other use is considered improper and is prohibited. Damage caused by improper use excluded from liability coverage.
Accident Prevention Regulations In addition to the instructions in the operating instructions, the following regulations and laws also apply: • The operating safety and accident prevention regulations • The country-specific safety regulations • The country-specific accident prevention regulations • The country-specific environmental protection laws
Liability Limitations The unauthorized conversion of the scanner system by the owner is always prohibited. Only use spare parts of the original manufacturers when carrying out repairs.

2. Safety
Residual Dangers The scanner system has been built in accordance with the latest technical standards and the recognized technical safety regulations. Despite design safety measures and safety equipment, there are still residual dangers on the scanner system.
Danger from Electrical System When the TLM line is switched on, contact with electrical components presents a danger to life and limb. Do not touch electrical components. The electrical voltages of several components are retained after the TLM line is switched off and do not discharge until after up to 30 minutes. Do not touch electrical components until after 30 minutes have past.
Danger from Direct Visual Contact with Lighting Direct visual contact with the lighting of the scanner system can cause eye injuries. Never look directly into the lighting. Do not hold any optical elements, such as lenses or mirrors, in the path of the lighting beam.

Operating Principle The scanner system consists of hardware and software components: 1
2
3
1
Scanner (Hardware)
3
2
Image Processing (IP) Administrator (Software)
Scanner Software (Software)
During production the scanner system produces images of the product and then evaluates them. Arriving products are detected by the scanner [1] and illuminated with integrated or external lighting. The image processing computer contained in the scanner evaluates the images of the products and forwards the result of the evaluation to the controller of the TLM line. The image processing administrator [2] manages all image processing units (scanners and cameras) and enables access to the scanner software [3]. The scanner software [3] enables display of the image data and control of the characteristics to be detected. The scanner system is intended for the following applications: • Detection of products • Detection of rotary orientation and position • Detection of bad products • Checking the surface

No. Description 1
Color Conversion The parameters for distinguishing between the product and the product belt can be set in the Color Conversion area. To improve the separation, the parameters (lighting, color channels) can be set so that a maximum contrast between the product and the product belt results. Additional information,» "Color Conversion", Chapter 7‚ Page 2.
2
Binarisation The minimum and maximum threshold for product detection can be set in the Binarisation area. For example, products too close to each other can be separated. Additional information,» "Binarisation", Chapter 7‚ Page 4.
3
Belt lane check The belt can be divided into up to ten lanes in the Belt lane check area. Additional information, » "Belt Lane Check", Chapter 7‚ Page 6.
4
Dimension check Dimensions and area tolerance for product detection can be set in the Dimension check area. For additional information,» "Dimension Check", Chapter 7‚ Page 7.

No. Description 5
Shape check The tolerance of the shape for product detection can be set in the Shape check area. Additional information, » "Shape Check", Chapter 7‚ Page 9.
6
Leading master In the Leading master area, it can be set whether and which information, e.g. from a 3D scanner, is to be transferred to other reflected light scanners. Additional information, » "Leading Master", Chapter 7‚ Page 11.
7
Surface parameter Customer-specific properties which a product must have in order to be detected as good can be set in the Surface parameter area.
8
Tool settings / Angle In the Tool settings / Angle area, it can be specified which angle is to be sent to the TLM line controller. For example, restrictions can be made on up to what angle a product may be picked up or the pick-up point of the product can be shifted. For additional information,» "Tool Settings / Angle", Chapter 7‚ Page 12.
9
Freespace check In the Freespace check area it can be defined how large the distance around an individual products must be. Depending on the gripping tool, up to four free spaces can be created around the product. Additional information, » "Freespace Check", Chapter 7‚ Page 14.
10
Grouping In the Grouping area it can be specified what number of products is to be combined to form a group and what distances the product centers must have to be detected as a group. Additional information, » "Grouping", Chapter 7‚ Page 15.
