Safety Requirements Note — The safety indications in this chapter apply to general monitor use. Safety indications in other chapters apply to specific monitor measurements. Follow the instructions in this user manual when using the monitor. However, conventional medical practices always supersede this document. Significance of safety requirements set forth here in this manual is not in order of reading sequence.

Warning

The monitor is not for home use. The monitor is not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. Ensure that the patient monitor is in good working condition and is placed in the proper position before clinical use. Never use cables that have exposed conductors on both ends. Only use undamaged cables and connectors and check them before using. Never simultaneously touch the patient and the input or output terminal of the monitor. The fetal/maternal monitor is NOT intended for use during defibrillation, electro-surgery, CT scans or MRI. Never use the monitor on patients with pacemakers or the patient has an arrhythmia problem. The fetal/maternal monitors are NOT intended for use for ECG measurements on patients connected to external electrical stimulators or with cardiac pacemakers. Never use the monitor on more than one patient at a time. Do not modify this equipment without authorization of the manufacturer. Never use the monitor in an environment of anesthetic gases. Disconnect the AC power supply and remove the battery before disassembling the monitor. Never rely exclusively on the alarm system for patient monitoring. Low alarm limits or turning the alarm off during patient monitoring may result in patient danger. The most reliable method of patient monitoring combines close, personal surveillance along with the correct operation of the monitor. You must periodically check that monitor alarms are working properly.

Caution

Only use the monitor in environments as specified in Table B-10 in Chapter B, “Specifications” of the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Instructions for Use. Otherwise, damage to the monitor can occur. To avoid personal injury, only use accessories and parts produced or recommended by Goldway. Otherwise, damage to the monitor can occur. Position power cords and other accessory cables to prevent tangling, patient contact, or electrical interference. Always properly ground the monitor. Use the monitor on battery power only if you suspect any problem with external grounding or wiring. If multiple devices are connected to a patient, the sum of the leakage currents may cause a dangerous situation. Therefore, qualified service representatives should always perform current leakage tests before setting up the connections. This ensures that leakage is within limits and prevents personal injury and environmental damage. Contact Goldway for correct usage. The monitor must conform with the international standard IEC 60601-1-2 and other applicable EMC standards. Interference takes place when electromagnetic energy is extremely high. Ensure that any nearby instruments are also in compliance with EMC standards. Never turn on or use portale. Any devices connected to the monitor must comply with the IEC standard for that device. For example, data processing devices must comply with IEC 60950 and medical devices must conform to IEC 60601-1. The whole system must comply with the most recent IEC 60601-1-1 standards. To ensure monitor safety, all service parts and accessories must comply with IEC 60601 standards. The system configuration of the monitor must comply with IEC 60601-1-1 medical electrical standards.

If patient data is lost, closely monitor the patient or replace the monitor immediately. User configurations will be saved automatically when the monitor is powered off. Ensure that qualified service representatives annually calibrate and maintain the monitor. Periodically check all reusable accessories for damage. Replace and dispose of damaged accessories and monitors according to your local hospital waste disposal regulations. ECG electrodes are disposable accessories. Always properly dispose of ECG electrodes according to your local hospital waste disposal regulations. Clean and sterilize the monitor and accessories according to local requirements. Turn off the monitor and disconnect the power cords before cleaning or sterilization. Keep all monitor packing materials away from children, or dispose of them in accordance with your local environmental regulations. Always properly dispose of the monitor and all accessories at the end of their service life. Dispose of batteries according to your local regulations. Never incinerate batteries or expose them to high temperatures. Ensure that no water condenses into or on the monitor. Condensation can occur from changes in temperature or exposure to humidity.

1 Introduction This manual describes how to troubleshoot and repair the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor and recorder. For more information on maintaining, using, and cleaning the monitor during normal use, see the CTG7 Fetal/ Maternal Monitor Instructions for Use.

1.1 Who Should Read This Guide This guide is for qualified service personnel or technicians responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor (Service Number is 866084). Before you start to service or repair the product, read this service guide and the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor Instructions for Use. You should also be familiar with the following: 1. Standard medical equipment installation procedures. 2. Current conventional technical terms used in this manual.

1.2 Repair Strategy This service guide will help you determine whether a fault is a hardware or software problem. Repair and/or replacement of individual board components is not supported and should never be attempted. The disassembly, repair, or replacement of the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor and its accessories without the written authorization of Goldway will invalidate the warranty. •

Site Requirements

1.3 Site Requirements 1.3.1 Space Requirements Situate the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor in a place where the clinical staff is able to monitor the patient with relative ease, with all patient connectors and controls readily available, and the display clearly visible. The location should also allow access for service personnel without excessive disruption and should have sufficient clearance all around to allow air circulation. For detailed physical specifications of the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor, see Appendix B, “Specifications” in the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor Instructions for Use.

1.3.2 Environmental Requirements The environment where clinicians will use the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor should be free from vibration, dust and corrosive or explosive gases. The ambient operating and storage conditions for the CTG7 Fetal/ Maternal Monitor must be observed. If these conditions are not met, system accuracy could be affected and damage might occur.

1.4 CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor Overview You can use the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor to monitor: fetal heart rate (FHR) externally using ultrasound, uterine activity using an external TOCO transducer, optional maternal ECG, optional maternal non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) and optional SpO2 (pulse oximetry). Measurements are displayed on a 7-inch color display as numerics and waveforms. The built-in recorder documents fetal and maternal measurements.

1.5 Indications for Use The CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor is for use by licensed healthcare professionals whenever there is a need for monitoring the physiological parameters of pregnant women and their fetuses. Physiological data, system alarms, and patient data analysis will be available to the user from the monitor. Physiological data includes, but is not restricted to FHR, TOCO, maternal ECG, maternal non-invasive blood pressure and pulse oximetry.

1.6 Intended Use The intended use of the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor is for monitoring, recording, and alarming of multiple physiological parameters of mother and fetus in healthcare environments. Additionally, the monitor is intended for use in transport situations. It could be used in the following clinical environments: •

Demo Mode

1.8 Demo Mode Demo mode lets you demonstrate the monitor without actually monitoring parameters. To configure Demo mode: 1. Rotate the navigation wheel to menu bar and press the wheel. 2. Rotate the navigation wheel to the System menu and press the wheel. 3. Rotate the wheel to Sys. Maint. and press the wheel. A Password window appears. 4. Enter the password 8727 and rotate the navigation wheel to OK and press the wheel. Note — The password is only available for selecting Demo Mode.

5. Rotate the navigation wheel to Demo and press the wheel. 6. Rotate the navigation wheel to select ON and press the wheel. 7. Rotate the navigation wheel to OK enter Demo Mode and exit the Sys. Maint. menu. The monitor enters Demo Mode. To return the monitor to regular monitoring: 1. Repeat the steps 1- 5. 2. Rotate the navigation wheel to select OFF and press the wheel. 3. Rotate the navigation wheel to OK to exit the Sys. Maint. menu. The monitor ends Demo Mode.

Mounting the Monitor

1.9 Mounting the Monitor The CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor can be installed on a roll stand. Before mounting the monitor, attach the adapter plate. To mount the adapter plate to the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor: 1. Attach the adapter plate to the bottom of the monitor with the four screws.

2 Testing and Maintenance This chapter describes how to inspect and maintain the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor. It contains the testing and maintenance procedures to ensure proper functioning of the monitor and accessories. The chapter also contains information on preventive maintenance, performance assurance, and safety guidelines. Perform the procedures as indicated in Table 2-1 "Testing Guidelines". The recommendations in this table do not supersede local requirements. For more information on how to clean and sterilize the monitor, transducers, and accessories, see Chapter 11 “Cleaning and Care” in the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor Instructions For Use.

2.1 Manufacturer’s Responsibilities If a maintenance plan is not performed, the monitor can record inaccurate measurements, causing potential hazards to both operators or patients. In these cases – unless otherwise agreed – the manufacturer is not responsible.

2.2 Testing and Inspecting Guidelines Table 2-1 "Testing Guidelines" lists the tests that you should complete after performing monitor installations, repairs, or software upgrades.

2.6 Performance Verification Tests This section details the periodic maintenance recommended for the monitor, transducer and accessories. Service personnel must inspect the monitor thoroughly and verify performance when before the monitor is put into service and every 12 months or whenever necessary thereafter.

Performance Verification Tests

2.6.1 Visual Test To perform the visual test: 1. Inspect the system for obvious signs of damage; for example, cracks, cuts, or breakage. 2. Check all external cables and accessories; for example, cuts, kinks, wrong connections. 3. Ensure that all markings and labeling are legible. 4. Check for any obstructions to mechanical parts. The excepted test result is that the system has no obvious signs of damage or obstruction.

2.6.2 Power Supply and Battery Test To perform a power supply and battery test: 1. Plug the monitor into an AC power outlet and 2. Power on the monitor. 3. The power LED should glow in one of the following colors: – Green: the monitor is powered on and working normally. – Yellow: the monitor is connected to AC power but not turned on.The internal battery is charging. 4. Unplug the AC power cord. 5. Verify that the power LED is green and a battery icon displays in the status box on the screen.

2.6.3 Fetal Monitoring Test 1. Set the fetal simulator to 120 bpm, then attach the fetal monitoring probe on the analog signal generator of the fetal simulator. 2. Set the baseline value of the uterine contraction to 20. Make sure that the uterine contraction probe faces up and the uterine contraction pressure is 0. 3. Place a 50g weight on the uterine contraction probe. 4. Set the volume of the fetal heart to level 5. 5. Observe if the fetal heart pulse is 120 +/- 2bpm, and the volume of fetal heart is normal. 6. The uterine contraction pressure should be 46 +/- 10. The fetal monitoring module test is complete.

2.6.4 NIBP Test Always check to see if the cuff or hose has a leak. Replace the cuff or hose as necessary. If a pressure reading is more than ±3mmHg inaccurate when compared with a precise blood pressure meter, the monitor needs pressure calibration. The following tests verify the performance of the non-invasive blood pressure measurement.

2.6.4.1 NIBP Accuracy Test This test checks the accuracy of the NIBP measurement. To test for NIBP accuracy: 1. Connect the manometer and the NIBP connector on the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor with tubing.

Figure 2-1 NIBP Accuracy Tubing Connection 2. Connect the other end of the tubing to the expansion chamber (500ml cylinder). 3. Press the TOCO calibration key. 4. Press the navigation wheel and roate the wheel to select the NIBP screen.

5. Press the navigation wheel. The NIBP menu appears. 6. Rotate the navigation wheel to Work mode and set it to Test.

7. Squeeze the manometer pump to apply a pressure of 50mmHg.

8. Press the NIBP key on the front panel of the monitor. Note the pressure displayed in the NIBP numeric pane and record this result as X1 (see Table 2-4 on page 2-3). The reading should be 50mmHg ±3mmHg. 9. Press the NIBP key to stop the test. 10. Squeeze the manometer pump and apply a pressure of 250mmHg. 11. Press the NIBP key on the front of the monitor. Note the pressure displayed in the NIBP Numeric Pane and record the result as X2. 250 mmHg ± 3mmHg is a proper result. 12. Press the NIBP key on the front of the monitor to stop the test. 13. If the difference between the manometer and displayed values is greater than 3mmHg, calculate the difference using the following formula, and then calibrate the monitor (see section "NIBP Calibration"). Vadj = [(X1 - 50) + (X2 - 250)] / 2 14. If the difference between the manometer and displayed values is not greater than 3mmHg, see section "Overpressure Test". 2.6.4.2 NIBP Calibration To calibrate the NIBP module: 1. Press the TOCO calibration key. 2. Press the navigation wheel and roate the wheel to select the NIBP screen. 3. Press the navigation wheel. The NIBP menu appears. 4. Rotate the wheel to Calibration and press the wheel. 5. Rotate the wheel to select a value most close to Vadj. NIBP calibration is complete. 2.6.4.3 Leakage Test The NIBP leakage test checks the integrity of the system and of the valve. Perform this test once every two years as well as when you repair the monitor or replace parts. 1. After you calibrated the NIBP, repeat steps 3~6 of the accuracy test. 2. Squeeze the manometer pump and apply a pressure of 250mmHg. 3. Wait a few seconds for the measurement to stabilize. 4. Watch the pressure value for 60 seconds. 5. Calculate and document the leakage test value (X3). X3= P1-P2 where P1 is the pressure at the beginning of the leakage test and P2 is the pressure displayed after 60 seconds. The leakage test value should be less than 6 mmHg. 2.6.4.4 Linearity Test 1. Reduce the manometer pressure to 150mmHg. 2. Wait a few seconds for the measurement to stabilize. 3. After the measurement is stabilized, compare the manometer value with the displayed value. 4. Document the value displayed by the monitor (X4). 5. If the difference is greater than 3 mmHg, calibrate the NIBP measurement (see section "NIBP Calibration").

2.6.4.5 Overpressure Test To test the overpressure: 1. Press the TOCO calibration key. 2. Press the navigation wheel and roate the wheel to select the NIBP screen. 3. Press the navigation wheel. The NIBP menu appears. 4. Rotate the wheel to Work mode and set it to Test. 5. Rotate the wheel to Patient Type and set it to Adult. 6. Squeeze the manometer pump and apply a pressure of 290 mmHg. 7. Press the NIBP key and verify that the valves are open. 8. Release the pressure on the manometer.

2.6.5 SpO2 Test To perform the pulse SpO2 test: 1. Power off the Oximetry simulator (SpO2 simulator). 2. Connect the SpO2 simulator to the SpO2 connector on the monitor via a SpO2 cable. 3. Turn on the SpO2 simulator, set the SpO2 value to 95% and the pulse rate to 100 bpm. 4. Verify that the SpO2 value displayed on the monitor is between 92% and 99%. 5. Verify that the SpO2 waveform displayed on the monitor is normal. 6. Verify that the pulse value displayed on the monitor is between 96 and 104. 7.

Turn off the SpO2 simulator and unplug the SpO2 cable.

SpO2 test is complete.

2.6.6 ECG Performance This test checks the performance of the ECG measurement. To perform the ECG test: 1. Connect the ECG patient cable to the ECG connector on the socket panel of the monitor. 2. Connect the other end of the ECG patient cable to the ECG simulator. 3. Configure the ECG simulator to: – ECG sinus rhythm – HR = 80 bpm, or a rate of your choice. 4. Verify that the displayed ECG wave and HR value (+/- 2bpm) on the monitor correlate to the values you selected on the ECG simulator. For example, if you selected 80 bpm, the displayed value on the ECG monitor should be 78-82 bpm. 5. Redo the test, selecting several heat rates on the ECG simulator: 80, 100, 160. 6. If you do not get the results in step 4, see Chapter 4, "Troubleshooting".

Safety Tests

2.7 Safety Tests Use the following safety test procedures to verify safe installation or service. The setups used for these tests and the acceptable ranges of values are derived from local and international standards, but may not be equivalent. These tests are not a substitute for local safety testing where it is required for an installation or a service event. If using the Metron Safety tester, perform the tests in accordance with your local regulations. For example, in Europe, use IEC60601-1/IEC60601-1-1 and in the US use UL2601-1. The Metron Report should print results with the names listed below, together with other data. Note — Safety tests meet the standards of, and are performed in accordance with IEC 60601-1, Clause 19 (EN60601-1:1990). The CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitors have been classified as Class IIb equipment. They are double insulated and do not require a protective earth (ground) wire.

2.7.5 Fetal Recorder Maintenance Clean the recorder platen, thermal printhead and paper sensor at least once a year, or when needed (when traces become faint). Clean the assemblies as follows: •

Clean the recorder platen with a soft lint-free cloth.



Soak a cotton swab in alcohol and gently wipe the surface of the thermal printhead of the recorder.



Check the paper sensing mechanism is dust free.

2.7.6 Transducer Test Caution

Use of ultrasound gel that is not approved by regulations (CE certificate) may reduce signal quality and may damage the transducer. This type of damage is not covered by warranty. If any of the following tests fail, repeat the test using another transducer. If the second transducer passes the tests, confirming that the first transducer is defective, contact an authorized service agent. If the second transducer also fails the tests, contact Goldway’s Customer Service Department.

2.7.6.1 Ultrasound Transducer Electrical Check To test an ultrasound transducer: 1. Power on the monitor and the recorder. 2. Connect the transducer to the fetal monitor. 3. Select the fetal heart sound for this channel. 4. Increase the loudspeaker volume to an audible level. 5. Move the transducer back and forth over a solid surface, or the hand as shown.

6. A sound should be heard. 2.7.6.2 Toco Transducer Electrical Check To test a Toco transducer: 1. Power on the monitor and the recorder. 2. Connect the transducer to the fetal monitor. 3. Gently apply pressure to the Toco sensor. 4. Check that the value on the display and paper shows the change in pressure.

Recorder Test

2.7.7 Speaker Test To test the monitor speaker: 1. Turn on the alarm sound and set the heart rate alarm limits. 2. Check and make sure the monitor provides an alarm sound when the heart rate is out of the alarm limits. 3. Silence the alarm sound and ensure that the monitor provides an alarm sound when the heart rate is out of the alarm limits. 4. Turn on the alarm sound. The speaker test is completed.

2.8 Recorder Test For detailed recorder test procedures, see section “10.2 Loading the Recorder Paper” on page 10-1 in CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor Instructions for Use.

2.9 Upgrading the Software Before you perform a software upgrade, you need the following: 1. PC with CD-ROM 2. USB-RS 232 cable 3. Upgrade software

3 Theory of Operation This chapter provides an overview of the theory of operation for the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor.

3.1 CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor Hardware Overview

Power Supply

3.2 Power Supply The power supply includes an AC power module (+15V) and Lithium Ion battery. The power supply is a wide-range input switching unit, with an output of 15V. It is located in the bottom housing assembly. A green LED is located on the monitor controls panel of the top cover assembly. This LED indicates when there is AC input power.

3.3 LCD Display Assembly The LCD display assembly is located in the top cover assembly. It contains these parts: •

LCD drive module



Alarm LED board

The LCD display assembly consists of a 7” TFT panel, a LCD drive module, and a alarm LED board. Driving signals of the display panel transfer to the system board via FPC (flexible printed circuit). The LED converter connects to the system module via a 2-pin connector wire.

3.3.1 LCD Drive Module The LCD drive module is located in the LCD display assembly. It connects to the system board via recorder board. It controls the display drive and alarm.

3.4 Fetal Recorder (Thermal Printer Unit) The fetal recorder is located in the bottom housing assembly. The recorder contains these parts: •

3.4.1 Recorder Board The recorder board is located in the top cover assembly. It handles the recorder signals and transfers the power to the print head. The recorder board also connects to the system board and the LCD drive module to offer the communication between the system board and LCD drive module.

3.4.2 Thermal Print Head The printhead prints all data and monitoring information on heat sensitive paper. The print head connects to the print board via FPC and cables. The print head is an integrated unit containing the thermal line printhead (TLPH), paper sensor, and stepper motor.

3.5 NIBP Module (optional) The optional NIBP module is located in the left side of the bottom housing assembly. It connects with the system board via the NIBP connector cable.

SpO2 Module (optional)

3.6 SpO2 Module (optional) The optional SpO2 module is fixed on the system board. It sends data to the system module via connector pins.

3.7 ECG Module (optional) The optional ECG module is located in the right side of the bottom housing assembly. It connects with the system board via the connection cable.

3.8 Fetal Monitoring Module The fetal monitoring module controls the ultrasonic emission of the ultrasonic transducer, receives the echo signals, and receives the signals from TOCO transducer, marker and waker. The ultrasonic transducer is a pulsed Doppler system with a 1.0 MHz ultrasound frequency and reception rate. The fetal monitoring module processes all collected signals, outputs fetal heart sounds, and transfers all monitoring data to the system module.

3.9 System Module The system module is located in the bottom housing assembly. The main functions of the system module are signal processing, interface communication, and voltage inversion.

3.10 I/O Interface Board The RS232 interface is used for software upgrade. To perform software upgrades, you use a software upgrade tool that connects to a PC.

4 Troubleshooting This chapter describes how to troubleshoot monitor and recorder problems. After using this chapter to diagnose a problem, see the "Repairing the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor", to repair the monitor or to remove and replace a part or assembly.

4.1 Power Problems

5 Repairing the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal Monitor This chapter describes the procedures for disassembling and assembling the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor in order to replace or repair defective assemblies/components. The CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor includes the top cover assembly and the bottom housing assembly.

5.1 Required Tools The following lists the tools required to disassemble, repair, and re-assemble the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor:

Before performing any service on the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor, power off the monitor and disconnect it from the AC mains supply, and remove the battery first.

5.2 Removing/Replacing the Battery Before performing any service on the monitor, you should remove the battery. To remove the battery: 1. Carefully place the monitor upside down on a soft surface.

2. Use a flat-head screwdriver to open the battery cover.

3. Press the spring lock down to release the battery.

4. Pull out the battery.

5. When installing the battery, check the polarity indicators on the battery cover and insert the new battery according to the indicators. 6. Install the battery cover. Note insert the plastic lock pillar into the hole in the middle of the spring lock.

Warning

Ensure that the battery is completely inserted into the monitor and that the battery door is firmly closed. An improperly installed battery could result in serious injury to patients if it falls out of the monitor.

5.2.1 Battery Maintenance and Disposal When the battery displays signs of damage or when it no longer charges, replace it. Dispose of the used battery in accordance with local laws and regulations.

5.2.2 Reconditioning the Battery Caution

Only authorized service representatives should recondition the battery. Before putting a new battery into use, perform at least two complete reconditioning cycles. This improves the battery life and increases performance specifications. A reconditioning cycle is complete (charging and discharging the battery) when the monitor powers off from lack of battery power. Perform a recondition when battery performance is shortened or when the battery is stored for 2 months or more. To recondition the battery: 1. Disconnect the monitor from the patient and turn it off. 2. Place the battery you want to recondition into the monitor battery compartment (see section 5.2 "Removing/Replacing the Battery" on page 5-1). 3. Connect the monitor to AC power and continuously charge the battery for more than 8 hours. 4. Disconnect the monitor from AC power and power the monitor with the battery until the monitor turns off. 5. Connect the monitor to AC power and continuously charge the battery for more than 8 hours. Reconditioning is complete.

5.3 Removing/Replacing the Fuse To remove a fuse in AC power socket: 1. Use a flat-head screwdriver to lift the fuse holder away from AC power socket.

Interface Film 2. Pull out the fuse holder and remove and replace the fuse as shown. To replace the fuse holder, push it back into the power socket until it snaps into the place.

7 Electromagnetic Compatibility This chapter lists the tests and compliance levels that make the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor suitable for use in the specified electromagnetic environment according to IEC 60601-1-2:2007.

7.1 Instructions for Use Medical electrical equipment can either generate or receive electromagnetic interference. This product has been evaluated for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) with the appropriate accessories according to IEC60601-1-2:2007, the international standard for EMC for medical electrical equipment. This IEC standard has been adopted in the European Union as the European Norm, EN 60601-1-2:2007. Radio frequency (RF) interference from nearby transmitting devices can degrade performance of the product. Electromagnetic compatibility with surrounding devices should be assessed prior to using the product. Fixed, portable, and mobile radio frequency communications equipment can also affect the performance of medical equipment. See your service provider for assistance with the minimum recommended separation distance between RF communications equipment and the product. The cables, sensors/transducers, and other accessories for which compliance is claimed are listed in this service guide.

Warning

Use of accessories, transducers, and cables other than those specified may result in increased emissions and/or decreased immunity of the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor. The CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor should not be used adjacent to or stacked with other equipment. If adjacent or stacked use is necessary, the monitor should be observed to verify normal operation in the configuration in which it is used.

Caution

The following CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor accessories are sensitive to electrostatic discharge during fetal/maternal monitoring: •

Follow these guidelines to avoid electrical fast transient bursts and conducted disturbances: – Do not use the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor on mains power where other devices with radio-frequency transmitters are connected. – Keep any accessories for the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor far away from devices with radio-frequency transmitters.

Where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer and d is the recommended separation distance in meters (m). Field strengths from fixed RF transmitters, as determined by an electromagnetic site survey,1 should be less than the compliance level in each frequency range.2 Interference may occur in the vicinity of equipment marked with the following symbol:

1. Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as reorienting or relocating the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor. 2. Over the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 V/m.

7.2.4 Recommended Separation Distances The CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the CTG7 Fetal/Maternal monitor as recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment.
