9.2 Location of samples, orientation of tensile test pieces and preparation of tensile test pieces

The specifications of EN ISO 377 shall be observed in sampling and sample preparation. If agreed, the samples may be taken before flattening.

The samples shall be taken from products in the delivery condition. A sample of adequate size for all the tests to be carried out shall be taken from the product comprising the acceptance unit from any position on the strip or cut lengths. In cases of dispute the samples shall be taken from a position at least 3 m from one of the ends of the coil.

The tensile test pieces shall be taken from samples parallel to the direction in which the product was rolled, in a position halfway between the centre and a longitudinal edge (see EN ISO 377). The test pieces should not be further worked on either surface.

When cutting the test pieces from the sample, the deformation shall be minimized as far as possible. If shears or cutting torches are used, an adequate surplus shall be allowed, which will then be further worked.

10 Test methods

10.1 Chemical analysis The choice of a suitable physical or chemical analytical method for the analysis shall be at the discretion of the manufacturer. In cases of dispute, the method for the product analysis used shall be agreed taking into account the relevant existing European Standards. A list of available European Standards on chemical analysis is given in CEN/TR 10261.

11

BS EN 10132:2021 EN 10132:2021 (E) 10.2 Tensile test The tensile test shall be carried out in accordance with EN ISO 6892-1. The manufacturer may choose between method A or B specified in EN ISO 6892-1 for the tensile test.

The test pieces shall always have a gauge length Lo = 80 mm and a width of 20 mm (test piece number 2 of EN ISO 6892-1:2019, Annex B).

10.3 Hardness test

The hardness test shall be carried out in accordance with EN ISO 6507-1 (Vickers) or EN ISO 6508-1 (Rockwell).

10.4 Retests

For retests, EN 10021 shall apply.

11 Surface protection, coiling, packaging and marking 11.1 Surface protection The products are normally supplied oiled. In this case, both sides are protected by a coat of non-drying neutral oil, free from foreign bodies and spread uniformly so that under the normal packing, transport, loading and storage conditions there will be no corrosion after three months. The oil film shall be removable by an alkaline solution or other normal solvents. If the transport and storage conditions make special corrosion protection necessary, the user shall inform the manufacturer of this at the time of ordering. In this case the selection of protection oils shall be the subject of a separate agreement.

If the products are supplied in the as-rolled condition, or without oil, there is an increased risk of scratching and rust formation during transportation and storage.

11.2 Coiling and bundling

The internal/external diameter and/or the mass of the coil to be delivered shall be agreed during ordering. In case of cut lengths the mass of the bundles shall be agreed during ordering.

In case of narrow widths, strip complying with this document can also be wound in layers and supplied in the form of an oscillated wound coil / bobbin.

11.3 Packaging and marking

The method of packaging of the product to be delivered shall be agreed during ordering.

The manufacturer shall mark the products in a suitable way so that it is possible to identify the manufacturer's name or symbol, the cast number, the batch or lot number, the nominal dimensions and the steel grade. Where cold rolled narrow strip in cut lengths is supplied bundled, the required marking may be on a lable, which shall be securely attached to the bundle. Any special or additional marking or label shall be agreed upon at the time of the enquiry or order.

Bar coding according to EN 606 can be agreed at the time of enquiry and order.

Annex A (normative)

Supplementary or special requirements A.1 General One or more of the following supplementary or special requirements may be agreed upon at the time of enquiry and order. The details of these requirements may be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser at the time of enquiry and order, if necessary.

A.2 Bend test

The bend test shall be carried out in accordance with an agreed procedure and to agreed limits.

A.3 Fine grain structure

A.3.1 Verification of fine grain structure for case hardening steels When tested in accordance with EN ISO 643, fine grain steel shall have an austenite grain size of 5 or finer. If specific testing is ordered, the grain size requirement is to be verified by determining the aluminium content or micrographically. The fine grain structure is normally achieved, when the total aluminium content is a minimum of 0,018 %. In such a case, the micrographic investigation is not necessary. The aluminium content shall be given in the inspection certificate.

Otherwise, one test piece per cast shall be inspected for the determination of the apparent austenitic grain size. Sampling and sample preparation shall be as specified in EN ISO 643. The steel shall be tested in accordance with the Mc-Quaid-Ehn method described in EN ISO 643 and the grain structure shall be considered satisfactory if 70 % of the area is within the specified size limits.

A.3.2 Verification of fine grain structure for steels for quenching and tempering

When tested in accordance with EN ISO 643, fine grain steel shall have an austenite grain size of 5 or finer.

The steel shall be tested in accordance with the Bechet-Beaujard method described in EN ISO 643 and the grain structure shall be considered satisfactory if 70 % of the area is within the specified size limits.

A.4 Microscopic non-metallic inclusions

The special steels shall have a certain degree of cleanness; however, verification of the non-metallic inclusion content requires a special agreement. If there is such an agreement at the time of enquiry and order, the microscopic non-metallic inclusion content shall be determined to an agreed procedure and within agreed limits, e.g. in accordance with ISO 4967, EN 10247, ASTM E45 or SEP 1571.

22

BS EN 10132:2021 EN 10132:2021 (E)

A.5 Decarburisation If agreed at the time of enquiry and order the depth of decarburisation shall be determined in accordance with the micrographic method specified in EN ISO 3887.

A.6 Spheroidisation of carbides

This requirement is applicable to products when ordered in the delivery conditions +AC, +A, +LC and +CR.

The cross-section of each test piece shall be prepared, polished and then etched by means of a suitable solution. The degree of spheroidization of cementite shall be verified by means of a microscopic examination of the section, normally with a magnification of × 500.

If so agreed at the time of ordering, the degree of spheroidization shall be assessed with reference to an agreed series of standard images, e.g.: SEP 1520 or ISO 23825.

A.7 Roughness

Surface roughness shall be determined to agreed limits in accordance with EN 10049.
